Veraison has begun!

Today, the 30th of July, the first Dolcetto grapes have begun to change color, and this means that the plants are now beginning to develop in earnest. When veraison starts, the vegetation stops growing and the synthesized nutrients begin to be sent directly to the grapes. The Dolcetto vines were the first to initiate this process, and we will have to wait a few weeks for the Nebbiolo vines to get started. This year, a slightly late harvest has been predicted, but really, anything can happen: water and sun will determine whether maturation is accelerated or slowed, and we just have to wait and see. Veraison is also the best moment to start thinning out the vines, which is the selection of the grape bunches in the vineyards – I’ll show you in a few days!
