Why are we wishing Riikka good luck? Because she recently became the manager of the bottega del vino of Serralunga d’Alba, a shop and tourist information centre offering tastings, winery tours, event organization and more. Her husband Jyrki is a well-known Finnish chef and is also famous as an importer of great Italian wines to Finland, through his business Belmondo.
This dynamic Finnish couple, who have by now become firmly established in our hills, will offer their experience in service of the Langhe territory, and in particular Serralunga d’Alba.
As we already know, there are a lot of foreigners who invest in Langa. Luckily some of them actively participate in the development of the zone, and I think that this fusion of cultures and mentalities can give rise to some wonderful initiatives that will doubtless serve to enrich our territory
As if all this were not enough, the Sukula family also produces Barolo on a hectare of property cultivated in Meriame, in Serralunga d’Alba. Jyrki graciously presented me with a bottle of their 2008, and when I drink it I will be sure to share my impressions with him.
I offer my sincere best wishes to Rikki and Jyrki for their new adventure in a fantastic area, an area that is still however tied to a provincialism typical of Langa, something that needs to change and certainly will change – perhaps thanks to their help.
