[Note: this post was originally published in Italian on 18 March 2013.] By this point I have lost count; it’s the fifth or sixth snow this season, confirming that winter 2012–2013 has been a long one. The weather predictions say that spring is just around the corner and the first thing to take into consideration is water. The soil is full of water, so my attention is focused on managing the grass in the vineyards. After all of this rain and snow, when the temperature goes up we can expect the grass to grow very quickly, so as soon as possible we will need to start the under-vine work, giving precedence to the young vines.
The arrival of good weather will awaken nature with a start, so we need to be ready and watching carefully, in order to start off the 2013 season on the right foot.
