It was very warm year of cold September nights, rainy in the right moments. The result is a Barolo characterized by the smells of fruit and spices, with powerful tannins typical for rich opulent structured wines. During the ripening many sugars formed which created higher alcohol levels. All of this without impeding the Briccolina from expressing its principle characteristic: finesse. Although 2009 was a year which made Barolos more rounded and soft, the Briccolina always maintains a great (and ever evolving) aging potential.
I am particularly happy to show off the 2009 Barolo Briccolina during the Vinexpo fair in Hong Kong. It is very important to present one of the high level cru of Serralunga d’Alba during the most famous exhibition of the far East. For the first time we have decided to sell this wine in Magnum and double Magnum sizes. You will still find the unmistakable turquoise tissue paper inside.
