What color – the Barbera “Lirano Soprano” 2010!

The fermentation of the Barbera grapes is proceeding normally, the sugar concentration is very high and the skins are healthy and rich in polyphenolic substances. Attentive selection in the vineyard allows us to admire the intensity of the color of the “Lirano Soprano”, predicting a product of exceptionally high quality. I can’t wait to get it into the wood, and then we can begin to appreciate the transformation from rough to refined.

Decanter awards 5 stars to Barolo

Decanter, the prestigious English magazine, tasted some of my wines and these are the results. I am happy that they have awarded prizes to the vintages most expressive of the region’s best: 4 stars for the 2007 Barbera and the 2006 Nebbiolo and 5 stars for the 2006 Barolo Leon. This last will not be ready for commercial sale until 2011. In fact we are allowing the Barolo Leon to age for four years instead of the usual three, to give the powerful tannins more time to mellow. Do you agree with Decanter’s judgments?

Barbera Meeting under the snow

The arrival of Spring was predicted 10 days ago, but look at this photo taken this morning… The snow will welcome the journalists arriving from all over the world for the traditional annual “Barbera Meeting”, where they will taste Barbera’s from all around Piemonte.  In fact, Thursday 11th will be the day of Barbera d’Alba and among them, my Barbera d’Alba “Zio Nando” 2007 and Barbera d’Alba “Lirano Soprano” 2007. In the afternoon I will welcome the group of American wine bloggers, leaded by Jeremy Parzen: I’m saving a particularly intriguing selection just for them.
