Brazilian Futebol and Langa Wine…

It is really a truism that football and wine are the two passions that tie Italy and Brazil. The first link has a historical nature while the second has more recent origins for the Brazilians, but they  both engross and move us in the same way. Yesterday I had the pleasure of hosting lunch for my friend and wine journalist Alexandre Bronzatto of the magazine Gosto, and the owner of five restaurants in São Paulo and Rio, Mr André Lima. Both are from São Paulo but with a major difference: one roots for the Corinthias and the other for the … Continua

Stephen Brook at Rivetto

Today I received a visit from the noted English wine expert and writer, Mr. Stephen Brook. Mr. Brook’s career as a wine connoisseur has spanned 25 years, but this was my first opportunity to meet him in person. My biggest concern was to be able to offer wines at an optimal temperature. At 30 degrees, the alcohol becomes more pronounced and can create a misleading experience of wine. And so I took care to put a selection of wines in the refrigerator for about an hour prior to our appointment: the Dolcetto Ercolino 2009, the Langhe Nebbiolo 2007, the Barolo … Continua

The desire for a vineyard

<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-914" title="IMG_2861 copy" src="http://blog.rivetto.it/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/IMG_2861-copia-300×225.jpg" alt="New Barbera planting” width=”300″ height=”225″ />I am just back from the World Wine Meeting in Chicago and as you will have becoming aware in my previous blogs, the desire to dash off into vineyards is always there. It is a habit, but it is also a need for me to have contact with my type of nature. My passion has always been more linked to the winery than to the vineyard, but on my return from travelling around the world, I feel myself drawn by my vineyards, as if they wanted to see … Continua

The confirmation of Barolo 99 and the surprise of Zio 2001

Here is a brief video clip of part of the Nebbiolo Prima wine tasting organised for Denis Lin, an important Chinese journalist. Barolo Leon’s most appreciated year has been that of 1999 which has been characterised by its strength, finesse and freshness. I have also inserted under the ‘Our Wines’ icon a Barbera d’ Alba Zio Nando 2001, which has performed extraordinarily well as regards Barolo wines. I have been quite sincerely astonished at the persistent tartness which has allowed the Zio Nando stay at it very best after 9 years. I think that in future wine tastings I shall … Continua

Last day at Nebbiolo Prima

Today is the last day of Nebbiolo prima, and I’m happy that most of the chats with journalists from all over the world had as a common point the beauty of the 2006 vintage, the complexity, the richness, the fragrancy of it. My brother Alessandro partecipated to the tasting in the Barolo Castle, where buyers and journalists appreciated the complex tannins of Barolo Serralunga and Barolo Monforte. In the tasint, we had Langhe Bianco Matiré 2009, the Barbera Lirano Soprano 2006 and Barolo Serralunga 2006. The tasting table was shared with Mrs. Vezza and daughter from the producer Saffirio. Meanwhile I was … Continua

Vina Studija

Simplicity and elegance in a friendly atmosphere is not easy to find in the world of wine, I like a lot the concept behind Vina Studja in Riga, in cold Latvia. Winebar, cellar and  and lessons with sommelier, in just a bit less than 100 square metres. I’m in a city with both Russian and Latvian populations, and with different peculiarities and cultures, both represented in Vina Studija, to enjoy, appreciate and understand wine. The concept works well, in summer they will open another similar place in Riga, while in Ljiepaja, a town close to the sea, another one has … Continua

Barbera Meeting under the snow

The arrival of Spring was predicted 10 days ago, but look at this photo taken this morning… The snow will welcome the journalists arriving from all over the world for the traditional annual “Barbera Meeting”, where they will taste Barbera’s from all around Piemonte.  In fact, Thursday 11th will be the day of Barbera d’Alba and among them, my Barbera d’Alba “Zio Nando” 2007 and Barbera d’Alba “Lirano Soprano” 2007. In the afternoon I will welcome the group of American wine bloggers, leaded by Jeremy Parzen: I’m saving a particularly intriguing selection just for them.

Enrico Rivetto: @cetelina Grazie prof.per essere venuta :) !! 15 05 2012
