Nebbiolo Prima – day one
What an intense day. After a morning dedicated to blind Roero and Barbaresco tastings, the journalists and buyers hosted by Albeisa dedicated themselves to Barolo in the “2001 Retrospective” set up at Pala Miroglio in Alba. It was a beautiful sight to see: producers set up at tables ready to serve their own wines and, why not, taste those of their neighbours. The Barolo Leon 2001 was the spokesperson for the characteristics of an exceptional vintage: potency and refinement united. After ten years we are only at the beginning: we set a product into motion that its just now beginning … Continua →
Stewed Rabbit (my way) with Polenta
Spring still seems far off to me; some days it snows and the cold has not yet eased up. Here in Piedmont we are surviving thanks to the dishes prepared by my mum, Paola, which bring cheer to the cool early March weekends. And here I offer you her recipe for Rabbit with Barolo, “her way” and simply spectacular: Ingredients: One rabbit, 4-5 red peppers, one celery stalk, 3 carrots, rosemary, 6-7 whole cloves, one cinnamon stick, a grating of nutmeg, one large onion, 3 bay leaves, 2 cloves of garlic, a pinch of oregano, Barolo wine, olive oil, salt and … Continua →
BAROLO LEON 2006: To age is beautiful
It was worth the wait for those of us who shaped it, since we were imagining the result: a wine ready to meet the expectations of the most demanding. Decanter awards 5 stars to Barolo
Decanter, the prestigious English magazine, tasted some of my wines and these are the results. I am happy that they have awarded prizes to the vintages most expressive of the region’s best: 4 stars for the 2007 Barbera and the 2006 Nebbiolo and 5 stars for the 2006 Barolo Leon. This last will not be ready for commercial sale until 2011. In fact we are allowing the Barolo Leon to age for four years instead of the usual three, to give the powerful tannins more time to mellow. Do you agree with Decanter’s judgments?
Barbera meeting and Barolo tasting 97-99-00-01
I agree with Franco Ziliani that on his blog vinoalvino he speaks about innovative Barbera Meeting, where the wine bloggers are the real protagonists of event. It will be very difficult, in my opinion impossibile to think about organizing a similar event in Piemonte or elsewhere, consciously doing without bloggers, the good ones, who write serious and magisterial things and give opinions (and they are in Italy like outside). Not inviting them to partecipate, like it happens to journalists who work with printed press and collaborate with guides, arguing that “they are only bloggers”, it is not just a nonsense, … Continua →
