There will be no more wine gurus

So says Robert Parker in an interview given at Wine Future Hong Kong 2011 and reported in Harpers: He doubted there would be any single person that would be seen to have as much influence on the wine world in the future due to the internet. There could be individuals who are seen as the expert for a particular country, but the “perfect storm” that heralded his rise to global influence, namely no internet or international wine critics, would not be seen again. With this statement he seems to err a bit on the side of presumption, but in reality, … Continua

Decanter awards 5 stars to Barolo

Decanter, the prestigious English magazine, tasted some of my wines and these are the results. I am happy that they have awarded prizes to the vintages most expressive of the region’s best: 4 stars for the 2007 Barbera and the 2006 Nebbiolo and 5 stars for the 2006 Barolo Leon. And so I took care to put a selection of wines in the refrigerator for about an hour prior to our appointment: the Dolcetto Ercolino 2009, the Langhe Nebbiolo 2007, the Barolo … Continua

Drinkable quality – the Barbera d'Alba Lirano Soprano 2007

Barbera d’Alba’s Lirano Soprano 2007 is very much to my liking because it marries strength with softness, muscularity with finesse. The challenge is always to succeed in producing a great wine despite the tender age of the vineyard (4 years), which is only achieved with a careful choosing of the grape clusters over the summer. This Barbera is the expression of the hot 2007 and of the amazing Lirano lands situated between Sinio and Serralunga d’Alba. I am delighted to see Lirano Soprano appear in Decanter, the United Kingdoms’s most important wine magazine, and being awarded 4 stars. I believe … Continua
