Barolo Vertical Tasting – Live, Taste, Love (Part Two – Taste)

Taste. Images from the first three rounds of the Bartolo vertical tasting from 2001 to 1958. The journalists and buyers participating in Nebbiolo Prima were commenting on the vintages together with Sergio, Alessandro and Enrico,  but the real protagonists were the wines. Helmut Knall, Monica Larner and Subhash Arora were tasters in the first round. Ola Dybvick, Gianluca Mazzella, Fabio Cagnetti, Christian Wenger, Otmar Kiem, Martin Kilchmann, Gerhard Eichelmann, Edoardo Patrone, Pierluigi Gorgoni, Tim Felkner, Davide Oltolini, Brad Vanderpool and Robbin Gheesling were tasters in the second round. Diego Sorba, Alberto Rizzo and Andrea Terraneo were tasters in the third … Continua

Trip itinerary: Florida, Quebec, Colorado

Thirty above, twenty below…a considerable excursion as you can perhaps imagine. From sunny Miami to chilly Montreal and Denver in just ten days. And against sticky heat, against ice and gusts of freezing wind, there was a single ally for all: the 2006 Barolo Serralunga. It was a pleasant surprise that I wouldn’t have expected, especially from a city like Miami where I was ready to offer wines perhaps more suited to its climate. Let’s take a step back: MIAMI, 1-4 February – Nicolò Tita, our importer since July 2010, Brescia “DOC”, has established himself in the best places in … Continua

The new Rivetto t-shirts

The t-shirts you have been waiting for for so long have finally arrived! Do you like them? It’s one more way to remind yourself of my wine and Piedmont. I designed them with my Turkish friend Husein Sami Ozgorus, and they have a great fit, both for men and for women. From the photos you can see that I didn’t spend much on models.  Perhaps it would be better to look for some real models…anyone interested?

That chromosome called passion …

I am a bit embarrassed at showing photos of my brother and myself when we were children. But I wanted to show you how we got our love of wine. From early on as a child, I have developed this deep passion for my work: the smell of the washed wooden casks, the airborne motes of the dusty hazelnuts drying in the sun, the smell of the rows of mown grass, the games of football in the cellars where the vats were our goalposts, helping my father fill the vats with wine where I was a dab hand on the … Continua

Barbera meeting and Barolo tasting 97-99-00-01

I agree with Franco Ziliani that on his blog vinoalvino he speaks about innovative Barbera Meeting, where the wine bloggers are the real protagonists of event. It will be very difficult, in my opinion impossibile to think about organizing a similar event in Piemonte or  elsewhere, consciously doing without bloggers, the good ones, who write serious and magisterial things and give opinions (and they are in Italy like outside). Not inviting them to partecipate, like it happens to journalists who work with printed press and collaborate with guides, arguing that “they are only bloggers”, it is not just a nonsense, … Continua

Fog with a surprise

Thermal inversion is a technical expression identifying this spectacular phenomenon, typical in the valleys of the Langhe region. The warmth goes up and cold goes down, and the result is that going up, the fog gets less dense. Look what happens! Thermal inversions are usually more frequent during the winter and during the high pressure periods and scant circulation of air: during the clear and windeless nights, because of the quick loss of warmth from the days irradiation of the layers closest to the soil, there forms a cushion of frozen air. Besides, on the mountains, at sunset, the slopes … Continua
